COCKTAIL

A4

Every month International Artist magazine do a little feature called Creative Spark every month on Instagram (#iacreativespark) where we are invited to paint something inspired by their picture.

I thought I'd have a go, seen as I like painting glass and am one never to turn down a cocktail, and blow me - it was featured in their October/November issue this year! Very honoured and humbled to have been chosen along with some other very talented artists.

This A4 sketch is now available to purchase. If, like me, you love a cocktail, then this one's for you.

JUST IN TIME FOR KICK-OFF

oil on mdf
20" x 16" (51cm x 40cm)
unframed

Original oil painting created after a trip to Old Trafford for a rainy midweek match in early 2023 (they won).

As we approached the stadium and Hotel Football, the hazy floodlights seeping over the top of the Theatre of Dreams, along with the digital advert and other lights all battling against the evening misty Salford rain really caught my attention with the shadows being cast inbetween the descending crowd.

ROSEMARY'S BABY

oil on canvas
30" x 30"
unframed

As featured in International Artist magazine December/January 2024, this painting was a Finalist in the still life challenge

One of the two larger oil paintings in the gin-themed collection coming in at 30" x 30" unframed, along with 'After The Show'.

Rosemary is a wonderful herb and not just saved for the Sunday roast lamb, it seems. It's a favourite for gin and tonic lovers, too.

Gin appears to be living it's best life currently, with a revival and many flavoured gin coming on the market, but in my humble opinion, you cannot beat a refreshing, traditional G&T with ice and lemon.

Not forgetting the aromatic sprig of rosemary, of course.

AFTER THE SHOW

oil on canvas
30" x 30"
unframed

One of the two larger oil paintings in the gin-themed collection coming in at 30" x 30" unframed along with 'Rosemary's Baby'.

I think the addition of the raspberries to a traditional G&T makes it a very feminine tipple, perhaps those ladies who like to lunch or, as the title suggests, the theatre-goers.

The addition of the diamond and pearl drop earrings add a touch of luxury to the overall image, I feel, and who doesn't mind a bit of luxury now and again?

Nuts For Gin

20" x 20"
oil on canvas
unframed

This piece is the only medium-sized painting of the bunch at 20" x 20".

I could simply not paint a series of images of gin and tonic without the addition of peanuts. Memories of flying off on holiday and always had to have my KP nuts along with my G&T.  Of course, peanuts on planes are but a distant memory, but a memory I could not left out.

Can't beat the nibbles with the aperitif, can you?

FIRE AND ICE

oil on canvas
12" x 16"
unframed

The baby of the bunch, this little painting is 16" x 12" unframed. I wanted to create a masculine painting to balance out the feminine 'After The Show'.

Although this painting is a lot smaller than the others, it probably packs the biggest punch of them all with the chilli and peppercorns. Of course, anyone can drink their G&T with some peppercorns and chillis, but the addition of the men's designer watch ensured it was a 'man's man' who was braving this spicy drink.

Make Mine A Large One

~SOLD~

"Oh, I just have a small one, please" said no one, ever, and I wanted to playfully reflect that in this painting.

Just a simple, traditional gin and tonic with some ice, lemon and lime. Nothing more, nothing less.
