Welcome to Kay Ashton Fine Art
Kay divides her time between painting fine art oil paintings and working on commissioned artwork, which can be anything from portraits to seascapes or floral to pets.. Whether she is working on a fine art oil painting, pastel drawing or a commissioned piece, she endeavours to not only reflect, but show off the beauty in what she is currently painting. Figurative and portraiture are especially interesting as she likes to catch people in action, - especially children - through expressions and moods; bringing out their personality in the painting. Sometimes what seems like a dull photograph can be transformed into a captivating painting. Artwork can be commissioned directly from Kay, please see the Commission Your Own Artwork page for the pricing guide.
Some original works of art are also currently available to buy.
Many pieces of her artwork are in private collections around the world including Australia and Africa, and she was honoured to have Juicy Lemons n Limes chosen as one of the Paintings Of The Month for April 2013 on the official website for The Artist/ Leisure Painter's magazine (www.painters-online.co.ukl). One piece "Cyril Mintz" hangs in the new wing of Blackfriars Primary School, Salford, in memory of their beloved headmaster who passed away recently.
She was also overjoyed to have been awarded SAA Artist of the Year (Flowers or Gardens) 2015 for her detailed painting of the stunning Ena Harkness.
Her small daily paintings have been a huge hit, done each day in under two hours alla prima (from life). One of them, Garlic & Chillies, was shortlisted from hundred of paintings to the final eighty pieces of artwork in the Ken Bromley Cover Competition 2016.
Although Kay has always been able to draw and dabbled in watercolours on and off, her real artistic journey began in 2010 when she attended watercolour classes followed by oil painting classes where she found her medium, of which she paints mostly today. After posting some of her art on her social media page, friends began asking to purchase her work. Commissions soon followed. Based in Warrington, Cheshire, Kay paints most days around her family commitments. She also paints in pastels, watercolours, graphite and acrylics, but her heart lies with oils.
